Ebonylife Films, the Production Company for The Wedding Party I and II has finally come up with another comedy titled “Chief Daddy” which has beamed the spotlight on funerals of wealthy polygamist, Chief Akinwale Beecroft, a benefactor to a large extended family; households and he is blessed with an array of women who gave birth to children for him.
Just like some seminarians were asked to write out the programme of their funeral, Chief Daddy who had foreknown his death, had drafted a will to assign roles to all his women, his younger sister, his domestic staffs about his desired “befitting funeral” urging them to ensure that it was a peaceful event.
The rivalry and competition typical of any polygamous settings was played up in the movie. Each child was seen trying to defend the interest of their mother while the son, Falz, of the second wife, Kemi played by Joke Silva, presumed he was the heir apparent until the emergence of an older son. Also at the funeral, there were multiple aso-ebi at the event to show the glamorous side of the owambe of a Nigerian.
After the “befitting funeral”, the family was surprised to find out that they are expected to be a part of the Initial Public Offer (IPO) of the company of Chief Beecroft. This makes it obvious that either the end has not come to the story or the audience is left to fill in the gap.
