Ibadan Mesi Ogo

Ibadan

War shouldn’t have occur in Owu,
If not for Apomu market,
On whom should have control,
Between Ife and Owu,
Can there be Ibadan today,
If not for Maye Okunade,
The warrior like no other,
Okunrin takun-takun loju ogun.

If not for Apomu market,
Can there be Ibadan today,
A city born out of war,
War of superiority,
between Ife and Owu,
Brought up the city called Eba-odan,
Which eventually turned to Ibadan,
The abode of great war lords,
Ilu Ajayi ogbori Efon se fila-fila,
Ibadan omo ajoro sun!

Ibadan mesi ogo,
Someone like Atiba should remain immortal,
He made Oluyole, Basorun,
And Kurumi turned Aare,
Ibadan mesi ogo, nile Oluyole,
Ilu Efunsetan Aniwura,
Iyalode Ibadan like no other,
Ilu Ogunmola, olodogbo keri loju ogun,
The abode of Ibikunle,
With a terrifying backyard.
Ibadan omo ajoro sun!

A city established on the basis of war,
Ibadan maja-maja bii tijo kin-in-ni,
Eyi to ja aladugbo gbogbo logun,
The home of Latoosa,
Ibadan kii bani sore ai muni lo sogun,
Ibadan… omo ajoro sun,
Omo a je igbin yoo,
Fi ikarahun fori mu.

Ibadan! The ancient city of Yoruba,
with countless towns within,
Ibadan ti n gbonile, ti n gbalejo,
Eleyele lomi ti teru-tomo Layipo n mu,
Asejiire lomi abumu-buwe nile Ibadan.
A city that originated from war,
Can it be in tranquility?
Ibadan mesi ogo,
Ibadan kini show?
