Something different is happening in the city of Lagos. This is the time when one should crave living in Yaba and its environs as a public library has been transformed by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank). All the students in the neighbourhood have become more studious.
The transformation at the Herbert Macaulay Library in Yaba, popularly called the YouRead Library, is a step in the right direction for Nigerian brands. This project directly impact the grassroots particularly the poorly funded educational sector.
One good thing about the library is that it will spur students in the secondary school to aspire to becoming undergraduates as they mingle with students of the University of Lagos; Yaba College of Technology and the Federal Technical College all within the same locality.
The well-stocked library which has a Children Section called Kids Collection; a 635 Hub where readings are done; the main Reading Area with internet access; a lobby where people can relax and grub some snacks from the vending machine; an outdoor courtyard, convenience and the librarian’s office. However, the space become the largest repertoire of Nigerian language literature just like it is in place such as America; United Kingdom; Germany amongst others.
Periodically, the brand engage writers and literary enthusiasts for reading session at the 635 Hub, it was also in this same room that Bayode Treasures Olawunmi attempted to break the Read Aloud Marathon Guinness World Record. He read 17 books from different Nigerian authors within 5-days totaling 122 hours.
